Welcome to my blog space! I dreamt of starting a blog for quite some time. Always afraid of failing at it; I could never seem to find the courage to start. God kept guiding me to it in various ways. What got me to belly up to my laptop and finally get this up and running was my inner dialog (yes, I have conversations with myself on a daily basis…we all do, right?). An idea would pop in my head, or I would think about an upcoming dinner party, and my thoughts all seemed to be in blog form. Seriously, I didn’t even have a blog yet, but I had countless blog posts stored up in my head. Weird? Maybe…but God’s voice in my head told me it was time…Be the Light was what I heard over and over again. Not sure I’m going to dole out any wisdom via recipes or product reviews…but I’m taking this one step at a time and will continue to let God show my the way.
So here are my details:
I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. I have a Communications and English degree from John Carroll University, which means I’m trained for nothing really (JK). I currently work in marketing and love the creative side of what I do. What my education did teach me is to never stop learning to continue growing as a person, and to challenge myself. Taking on a new endeavor can be scary, but taking things one step at a time and learning as I go hasn’t failed me yet!
I now live in Columbus, Ohio with my husband, Dave, our four children (Meghan, Macy, Maxton and Jack), dog (Beck) and Crested Gecko (Michael). Dave and I met online (thank you Yahoo Personals for the best $30 online purchase to date). We were engaged in less than four months…I know, crazy right?!? Marrying Dave meant we would become a blended family of sorts. I had never been married before and had no biological children of my own, but Dave had two daughters from his first marriage, which made us an instant family. We had a honeymoon baby, Max and 14 months later Jack joined our crazy life. Much of the first few years were a somewhat of a beautiful blur.
I keep waiting for life to slow down so I could do something like start a blog…ha! Life doesn’t slow down. If anything, as babies turn into kids and kids turn into teenagers life speeds up.
Dave my husband is also originally from Cleveland, Ohio. We met in September 2007 and were engaged on New Years Eve of that same year! I know right?! Complete craziness, but he and I are a great fit for one another. His ability to make me laugh (my #1 requirement in most relationships) and his constant love and support are just a few of his amazing qualities. Dave works in sales and marketing and travels….a lot!
Meghan is my oldest step daughter. She is a perfectionist in most things and is a quintessential “oldest sibling”. She is also very protective of the ones she holds dear. When Dave and I met, Meg was six years old and I could tell she wouldn’t be won over with materialism (an easy go to for potential step-parents). Time and patience is what has brought my relationship with Meghan to where it stands today. Though we don’t often have long heart-to-heart conversations about boys and menstrual cycles, when it really matters, she comes to me and that means the world!
Macy is my younger step daughter. It’s not easy to sum her up in one quick blurb. She is sweet and devoted to her friends and family. She will try anything at least once and has played a number of sports. Macy has the ability, at a very young age, to see both sides of an argument and as such she is something of a peace keeper in our family. However, she knows herself and what it right and always (at least so far) makes great decisions. My first memory of Macy took place at a Dave and Busters where I met the girls for the first time. She said, “I’m not shy, sit by me”…and I think she has carried that philosophy with her to this day. That girl has a gaggle of friends.
Maxton “Max” is our oldest son. He was a honeymoon baby and by far the best souvenir we could have ever asked for. His first year of life was tumultuous to say the least! He was diagnosed with Scalded Skin Syndrome at four months, overall low muscle tone that led to months of PT and Speech therapy and to round it all out, he has food allergies too! Egg, Peanut, Tree nuts, Shellfish and Cod are just a few of his personal nemesis’s. Through it all, Max handles his situation like a champ. He has my sarcastic sense of humor which sometimes I love, but sometimes it bites me in the butt. Max is someone you can totally count on (hence his Mr. Dependable superlative from kindergarten). He too always makes the right choice and has already helped his friends out of sticky situations (as sticky as they can get in first grade) just by being Max.
Jack “Jacky” “Sweet Baboo” is the baby that rounds out our motley crew. Jack is completely and totally without a shadow of a doubt a mama’s boy…and I secretly (maybe not so secretly) love it! This kid makes me laugh Every.Single.Day. He prides himself on getting a laugh out of people (especially his little friends). He is kind and caring and the only one left who will snuggle with me whenever I ask. He gives the best baby bear hugs…seriously this child has always been freakishly strong! He had abs as a baby! Jack has always had the ability to understand his own emotions and although he can get frustrated easily (when he’s not “the best” at anything right away), he’s such a hard worker and has blossomed into a great little kiddo. So proud of him.
